How do I get started?

Suspecting that your child has a developmental delay or other type of special need can be scary and overwhelming!  We know this feeling firsthand and are here to help you navigate it all-- It is our goal to ensure our clients and their families don’t feel lost as they begin their journey.

  1. Call our office at 612-270-9979 or email We will ask some questions about your concerns and determine if an assessment is right for your child.
  2. We will send you in-take forms to fill out.

This gives us a better idea of who your child is, as well as strengths and weakness and important medical information we should be aware of.

  3. We can schedule an assessment time once the paperwork is completed and returned to our office.

What to expect at the assessment:

Relax!  It is our goal to walk you and your child through this process.  You will be invited and welcome to stay during the assessment.  Depending upon what areas of development we are looking at, you may have some additional “caregiver questionnaire forms” to fill out.

During the evaluation, the assessment is set up in a playful manner.  We will complete standardized assessment as well as gather observational data.  Assessment sessions are usually 1-1.5 hours in length.

Following the assessment, the therapist will compile all of the information gathered into an official assessment report.  Next, if your child qualifies for services, individualized treatment goals will be developed along with a plan of care.  If your child does not qualify for services, you will be provided with written recommendations to address specific areas of concerns.  All of this information will be sent to your child’s doctor for approval and a signature.  Finally, upon approval we will work together to schedule treatment sessions.

Why the name Hands, Hooves and Hearts Therapeutic Services?

The short answer is because the owner, Jenny, is passionate about kids and horses!!  She is an avid horseman and spends most of her weekends during the summer competing at horse events.  When she developed the company name several years ago, it felt natural that horses should be part of the name.  In additional to doing in-office traditional Occupational Therapy, she has also provided hippotherapy.
